Digital Technologies: Future of construction industry.

Image
Digitalization refers to enabling or improving processes by leveraging Digital technologies & Digital Data. In the AEC industry, construction practices were dealt with hand-drafted drawing, manual measurements & a load of paper documentation. Now this industry is entering into the digital age. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) has been used for many years & now Building Information Modeling (BIM) is changing the way projects are being delivered, Creating an efficient & sustainable built environment. T here are so many technologies in the industry that are in the developing process & a few of them are brief as follows which will definitely Empower & change the productivity of the construction industry. 1. Cloud-based BIM Collaboration - Cloud-based BIM Collaboration allows project team members to effectively work in a collaborative environment. It allows you to Merge multiple model files and work-sets from different project partners and different design tools into on

Level Of Development

➤ What is Level OF Development(LOD) in BIM? ➜Level of completeness to which model element is developed. ➜The core to the concept is that level of development defines the content & reliability of different BIM elements at different stages or milestones . ➜Level of development(LOD) describes the minimal dimensional, spatial, quantitative, qualitative & other data included in the model element to support the authorized uses associated with that specific LOD. ➜In the AEC industry, there are consist six different level of development that is defined by the American Institute of Architects(AIA) in 2013. ➤ LOD100 (Conceptual Design):- ➜ The building 3D model is developed to represent the information on a basic level. Thereby, only conceptual model creation is possible in this stage. Parameters like area, height, volume, location and orientation are defined. ➤ LOD200 (Schematic Design):- ➜A g eneral model where elements are modeled with approximate quantities, size, shape, location and

BIM Maturity Levels

➤ What is BIM Maturity Level? ➜ The  BIM maturity model  describes  levels  of  maturity  with regards to the ability of the construction supply chain to operate and exchange information. ➜There are different  levels  of shared collaboration in a construction project. Those are known as  BIM maturity levels . ➜BIM Maturity levels range from 0-3. ➤ Level 0 (Low Collaboration):- ➜ Level 0 means that the project promotes low collaboration & makes use of paper-based 2D drawing for drafting technique using Computer-Aided Design(CAD). ➜ The main goal is to generate productive information in the form of paper or electronic print. ➤ Level 1 (Partial Collaboration):- ➜ Level 1 involves the use of both 3D CAD & 2D CAD drawing, while 3D CAD is used for the conceptual work & 2D CAD is used for the generation of Documentation & production information. ➜ At this level, there is a partial collaboration between different stakeholder as everyone creates & manage their data. ➜ At t

The BIM Dimensions

➤ What is BIM? ➜Building Information Modelling(BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives  architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. ➜BIM allows a project to be built virtually before they are constructed physically, eliminating many of the inefficiencies & the problem that arises during the construction process.     ➤  What are  BIM  Dimensions? ➜ In Building Information Modelling, according to project stage requirement & project complexity specific parameters are added to the existing information contained in BIM. These additions of the parameter can be described as BIM Dimensions. BIM dimensions refer to the level of information & data entered into a 3D model. ➜   BIM Dimension- 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D & 7D  each has its purpose & useful in finding out how much a project would cost, its timeline, when it would be completed &
